RETAIL THEFT (IN PROGRESS) - DOLLAR GENERAL STORE

1/3/13 @ 5:55 P.M. - WYBPD received phone call at the station reporting that a suspect involved in a prior retail theft offense at this store on 1/2/13 in the morning hours had now returned to the Dollar General store and was currently concealing more merchandise on his person.   WYBPD advised the caller to hang-up and re-dial "911" and to provide updated information to a dispatcher, thus enabling the patrolman to respond forthwith.
 
@ 5:57 P.M. - WYBPD arrived at the Dollar General Store.   The perpetrator, seeing that the patrolman was in the store, did attempt to flee from the store.  After a brief foot chase the patrolman was able to apprehend this perpetrator within the stoe preventing his escape a second time.  Merchandise valued at over $247 was recovered from GRANTON and returned to the store.
 
This perpetrator was identified as Dwayne GRANTON, 35 Y.O.A B/M residing within the 300 block of W. Philadelphia St., York City.   It was also determined that GRANTON had two prior convictions for retail theft making this offense a felony of the third degree.
 
In addition, to the two separate thefts this week, GRANTON was charged for Retial THeft at this same location by WYBPD back in June of 2012 for a similar offense. 
 
GRANTON was transported to Central Booking to be processed and for arraignment. 
 
*The WYBPD reminds citizens when summoning police assistance to please utilize York County Control by simply dialing 911.  By doing so, response times are greatly increased and apprehensions are more likely to be made for crimes in progress.*
